Philip Cohen, MD

Cohen

"I’m really excited about reaching this stage of my career. Keeping people well and out of the hospital is, for me, the most rewarding and challenging aspect of medicine."

Dr. Phil Cohen has stretched the boundaries of being a physician throughout his diverse medical career. He began as a young doctor in an underserved West Virginia coal mining town; since then he has worked in community clinics, in private practice, for Kaiser Permanente, as a hospitalist, as a university instructor, and even at a Native American reservation, a jail, and as the trek physician on an expedition to Everest! These days, Cohen is focusing his attention on older adults as a member of the Senior Care team.

Dr. Cohen’s approach to medicine is based on patient education. “I don’t tell people what to do (unless that’s what they want),” he says. “I teach my patients what they need to know and empower them to make good decisions about their own healthcare.”

Cohen did his undergraduate work at Case Western Reserve Univeristy in Cleveland, OH, and earned his MD at the University of Tennessee Medical Units. Board certified in family and internal medicine, he has practiced since 1974. Dr. Cohen loves spending quality time with his two young adult daughters. He also enjoys outdoor Colorado recreation like skiing and golf, working out at the club, scuba diving, and adventure travel around the globe.
