“I’m a problem solver by nature -- a planner and an organizer. I ‘get’ how all the pieces fit together from various perspectives – the patient and family side, the clinic side, the provider side, the facility side. I have the information that’s needed to help facilitate the flow from one setting to the next. It’s really gratifying to spend face-to-face time with patients and their family members and to directly help address their concerns and meet their needs. I always try to make everyone as happy as I can.”
Shannon Evans was born and raised in Kansas City and attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in biology. During her childhood, she and her family frequently vacationed in Winter Park, and it was her dream to live in Colorado one day. So, after college, Shannon came to Denver “on a whim” and moved in with some friends from home.
She was hired as an appointment scheduler at the Senior Care of Colorado Swedish Clinic in Englewood, and discovered both a love and an aptitude for the work; she was soon promoted to scheduling manager for the entire practice. In that role, Shannon was accountable for scheduling 60+ providers at more than 300 facilities. “It was really complicated and a great deal of responsibility,” she remembers, “A lot of multi-tasking, organization, and communication.” She could never take a Friday off, and she even dreamed about the schedule some nights!
Shannon has now stepped into the important position of Care Coordinator for IPC/Senior Care patients at Swedish Medical Center and Porter Adventist Medical Center. She spends her days getting to know patients and understanding what they need, then connecting them to important resources. (Click here to read more about our Care Coordination program.)
A true Colorado outdoorswoman, Shannon loves to ski. But her favorite season is the summer. “I love hiking, camping, mountain biking, fishing—all that stuff,” she says. “And I don’t mind getting dirty!” Shannon and her fiancée have two dogs: Pearl, a little Westie, and Harley, a Springer Spaniel.
